Online fitness coaching for people in Hollywood
Hollywood sits between the two bigger cities on these pages and commutes to both: by the numbers it has one of the smaller shares of people working from home around here and one of the longest commutes. Coaching for Hollywood is coaching for the evening that arrives late, and for the sleep that gets cut to make room for everything else. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online.
Activity and sleep in Hollywood
Age-adjusted, an estimated 26.1% of adults in Hollywood report no leisure-time physical activity (a modeled estimate, 95% CI 22.7 to 29.6). An estimated 39.5% usually sleep less than 7 hours in a 24-hour period (same kind of estimate, 95% CI 34.9 to 44.5).
The number to notice is the second one. Four in ten adults here report short sleep, and in my experience that is the quiet reason a plan stalls in a city that commutes: the training is fine, the recovery is not. The check-ins ask about sleep before they ask about sets.
Daily life in Hollywood, by the numbers
From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 13.0% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.3); commuters average 29.4 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.0); the median age is 40.9 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.8); 91.3% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.2).
Training through the Hollywood heat
At the FT LAUDERDALE station (USC00083163, 8.7 km from the Census internal point), the 1991–2020 normal July high is 90.2 F, with 74.8 days a year at or above 90 F on average, an average January low of 57.7 F, and 68.77 inches of rain a year.
Hollywood reads from the same station as Fort Lauderdale and gets the same summer. The plan treats it the same way: hard sessions early, late or indoors from June to September, the Broadwalk and the beach for walks once the sun is low, and an indoor swap written next to every outdoor day for the afternoons it pours.
How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call — for Hollywood that is Eastern time, so the usual windows just work. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
My commute eats my evenings. When do I actually train?
On the days that exist, not the days you wish existed. With one of the longest commutes of the cities on these pages and one of the smaller work-from-home shares, a Hollywood plan that asks for five evenings fails in week two. So the plan is written in sessions you place yourself: two or three a week, forty minutes, built around the big movements, dropped into the days that are honestly free. Some weeks that is a Saturday morning and one weeknight. That still counts, and the weekly call rebuilds the next week from what this one allowed. Coaching for a week that doesn’t hold still is the full version.
How do you train through a Hollywood summer without melting?
By deciding the time before the day decides it for you. Seventy-odd days a year at or above ninety degrees means summer lifting is indoor lifting, and the outdoor work is early morning or after sunset: a walk along the water, a short conditioning piece, mobility. The plan writes that in from day one, so a hot week is a normal week rather than a lost one, and the outdoor sessions come back in the long mild stretch from November on.
I sleep badly. Should I fix that before I start training?
Start both, gently. Short sleep is common in the estimate above and training does not have to wait for it, but a plan built for a well-rested person will punish a tired one. So the first weeks are shorter and easier than you would pick for yourself, the weekly call looks at how you slept before it looks at what you lifted, and a week after several short nights gets a lighter plan instead of a guilty one. If the sleep problem is more than a busy season, that is a question for your doctor first; I am a fitness coach, not a doctor.
