Online fitness coaching for people in West Palm Beach
West Palm Beach is the Palm Beach side of the cities I coach around, with its own county, its own weather station and its own rhythm: shorter commutes than the Broward cities, more in-office work than Boca, and some of the most short sleep of any of them. Coaching here is less about finding time and more about using the time that is already there. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online.
Activity and sleep in West Palm Beach
Age-adjusted, an estimated 26.5% of adults in West Palm Beach report no leisure-time physical activity (a modeled estimate, 95% CI 23.2 to 30.0). An estimated 39.6% usually sleep less than 7 hours in a 24-hour period (same kind of estimate, 95% CI 34.4 to 44.8).
The second estimate is the one I would start from. About two adults in five here report short sleep, and a tired week trains worse than a busy one. Recovery is the quiet problem; the check-ins treat it as part of the plan, not a side note.
Daily life in West Palm Beach, by the numbers
From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 13.3% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.5); commuters average 23.4 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.7); the median age is 41.1 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.4); 89.3% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.4).
Training through the West Palm Beach heat
At the WEST PALM BEACH INTL AP station (USW00012844, 7.3 km from the Census internal point), the 1991–2020 normal July high is 90 F, with 74.1 days a year at or above 90 F on average, an average January low of 57.9 F, and 61.75 inches of rain a year. Partial records behind some of these: July high 23 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years), 90 F days 21 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years).
Two of these normals come with a partial record at the airport station, and the page prints that rather than hiding it. The practical reading is the same as the rest of the coast: summer lifting is indoor lifting, outdoor work moves to early morning or dusk, and the long mild season from November on is when the outdoor sessions come back.
How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call — West Palm Beach is Eastern time, so the call lands where you expect it. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
My commute is short. Why do I still miss workouts?
Because time was never the constraint. With a shorter average commute than the Broward cities on these pages, a West Palm Beach week has the minutes; what it usually lacks is a decision made in advance about when the session happens and what the smallest acceptable version is. The short-sleep estimate above is the other half: a tired evening does not spend its spare half hour on a workout unless the workout is already written down and already small. The plan does both, and the weekly call checks whether it worked. Why you keep starting over is the longer answer.
What does summer do to a training plan here?
It moves it, and it adds a rain plan. With more than seventy days a year at or above ninety degrees, the hard sessions go early, late or indoors from June through September; the walks go to the waterfront at dusk. The rainfall figure is why every outdoor day in the plan has an indoor version next to it, chosen on the weekly call when the week’s forecast is in, so a wet afternoon changes where you train, not whether.
I work in an office all week. Does online coaching still fit?
It fits an office week as well as a home one; the shape just differs. With a smaller work-from-home share than most cities nearby, West Palm Beach plans are written for mornings before work and the first hour after it, two or three times a week, with the weekend carrying one longer session when the week could not. The weekly call runs on the connection you already have at home, in the evening or on a weekend morning, scheduled around you.
