Online fitness coaching for people in the Indianapolis–Carmel–Greenwood area

The Indianapolis metro runs from Carmel and the northern suburbs through the city to Greenwood in the south, with a young median age, a short average commute, cold winters and a little over four in ten adults lifting twice a week. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Indianapolis is on Eastern time, the same as me, so the call can go anywhere in your evening.

How the Indianapolis–Carmel–Greenwood area trains, per the CDC’s metro survey

In 2023, an estimated 43.3% of adults in the Indianapolis–Carmel–Greenwood area reported muscle-strengthening exercises two or more times a week (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 41.1 to 45.4). In 2024, an estimated 22.3% reported no physical activity or exercise in the past month (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 20.8 to 23.8). Metro samples are smaller than the state survey’s, so read the range in brackets more than the single number.

How coaching works from a distance

Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.

I lift already. What does coaching add?

A plan that keeps changing in the right direction. The survey figures above say a little over four in ten adults in the metro do muscle-strengthening work twice a week. For people who already lift, the usual problem is not effort; it is the same lifts, the same weights and the same result for a year. Coaching means a program with progression written in, a weekly read of your log so the weights go up when they should and back off when they should not, and someone noticing when a lift has stalled for three weeks. If you lift and look the same as last year, that is the program, not you.

Where does training fit in a normal workweek here?

Around a commute that is short enough to leave room. With an average commute of about twenty-five minutes, most workdays here have space for a session before or after work without losing the evening. The plan puts three sessions into the days that suit you, the harder ones on days that start and end on time, and keeps a shorter fallback session for days that run long. If you work from home some days, as the figure above says a share of workers here do, the longer sessions go there. The weekly call moves them when next week looks different from this one.
