How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call — for Columbia that is Eastern time, the same as me, so the call can go anywhere in your evening. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
Some days I’m home, some days I drive. How does the plan handle both?
By giving each kind of day a different session. About a quarter of workers in Columbia work from home, and the average commute is under half an hour for those who go in, so if your week mixes the two, each kind of day gets its own session. Home days get the longer strength sessions, booked before the first call or at lunch. Commute days get a short session or a brisk walk, so they still count without needing an hour. When your office days change from week to week, the weekly call reshuffles the plan before Monday, so you are never trying to follow a schedule built for last week.
Does winter here interrupt training?
Only if the plan relies on being outside. The Baltimore airport station above, the hub’s own and the nearest with a full record, puts January lows in the mid-twenties with a fair amount of precipitation over the year, so evening walks and runs are the first thing to go when the days get short. The plan swaps them for an indoor version, a treadmill, a bike or a home circuit, in the coldest months, and leaves the strength sessions exactly where they were. Lifting is the constant that carries the year. When spring arrives the outdoor work returns, and the progress made indoors over winter is still there. The weekly call is where the switch is made.
