Online fitness coaching for people in the Milwaukee–Waukesha area

The Milwaukee metro runs from the city on the lakeshore west through Waukesha County, with a short average commute, January lows in the high teens and nearly one in four adults reporting no exercise. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Milwaukee is on Central time, an hour behind me, which puts the call comfortably in your evening.

How the Milwaukee–Waukesha area trains, per the CDC’s metro survey

In 2023, an estimated 41.0% of adults in the Milwaukee–Waukesha area reported muscle-strengthening exercises two or more times a week (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 38.4 to 43.5). In 2024, an estimated 23.2% reported no physical activity or exercise in the past month (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 21.1 to 25.3). Metro samples are smaller than the state survey’s, so read the range in brackets more than the single number.

How coaching works from a distance

Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.

Nearly one in four adults here report no exercise. Where would I start?

With the smallest week that still counts. The survey figures above say nearly a quarter of adults in the metro reported no physical activity in the past month, while about four in ten do muscle-strengthening work twice a week. If you are in the first group, the first month is two full-body sessions a week of five or six movements, weights light enough to learn each one, and a daily walk with a floor low enough to keep on a bad day. Progress comes from adding a rep or a set before adding weight. The point of the first month is that the second one starts.

How does training survive a Milwaukee winter?

By planning winter as its own season. The station figures above put average January lows in the high teens, and the early dark matters as much as the cold, so the walk after work is the first thing to stop when the days get short. The plan moves the daily movement indoors, to a treadmill, a bike, stairs or a longer warm-up at the gym, and keeps the strength sessions on the same days all year. Winter is a good season for lifting progress, since less is competing for the time. When the mild summer comes, the outdoor work moves back outside and the lifting keeps going.
