Online fitness coaching for people in Delray Beach

Delray Beach is on the Palm Beach County side of the metro, with close to one worker in five working from home and a trip to work of under twenty-five minutes. Its weather figures come from the same inland refuge station as the Boynton Beach page, with the same partial record, printed with its years. Coaching here starts from what people already do and asks where it is going. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online.

Activity and sleep in Delray Beach

Age-adjusted, an estimated 23.1% of adults in Delray Beach report no leisure-time physical activity (a modeled estimate, 95% CI 20.0 to 26.5). An estimated 38.3% usually sleep less than 7 hours in a 24-hour period (same kind of estimate, 95% CI 33.2 to 43.4).

Fewer than one adult in four reports no leisure-time activity in this model-based estimate. Most adults here already do something active in their free time, by the estimate; the plan’s first job is to add structure to that without taking it away.

Daily life in Delray Beach, by the numbers

From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 18.6% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 2.2); commuters average 23.0 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.1); the median age is 51.3 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.8); 89.7% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.5).

Training through the Delray Beach heat

At the LOXAHATCHEE NWR station (USC00085184, 13.4 km from the Census internal point), the 1991–2020 normal July high is 89.8 F, with 66 days a year at or above 90 F on average, an average January low of 55.5 F, and 63.63 inches of rain a year. Partial records behind some of these: July high 23 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years), January low 23 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years), 90 F days 22 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years), precipitation 21 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years).

The refuge station sits about thirteen kilometres inland and each of its four normals rests on twenty-one to twenty-three years, as the flags say. They are the figures the Boynton Beach page prints too, and the reading is the same: outdoor work at the edges of the day in the hot months, the lifting indoors, and the cool months open at any hour.

How coaching works from a distance

Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call — Delray Beach is on Eastern time, the same as me, so the call can go in the middle of a workday or at the end of one. Between calls, you can message me with questions.

I am home most days and the office is close when I go. Where does the session go?

Into the middle of the day, on purpose. A trip to work of under twenty-five minutes and close to one worker in five at home mean a week here can have an hour that an office week does not, and the plan claims it: a session at midday or in the slow part of the afternoon, two or three days a week, at the same time on each day it runs. The days you go in get the shorter version, built from the main lifts, before or after the drive. The sessions move; the number of them in the week does not.

I already walk every day. What does a coach add?

Resistance. The estimate above says most adults in Delray Beach are already active in their free time. What a daily walk does not do is load the muscles the way strength training does, so the plan adds two short strength sessions a week to the walking rather than replacing it: a handful of movements, weights light enough that every rep looks the same, and a slow, written progression from there. The walk stays; the sessions are what change over the months. How to start lifting weights covers the first four weeks.
