Online fitness coaching for people in Miami Gardens
Miami Gardens is one of the cities inside the Miami metro, with fewer than one worker in ten working from home and an average trip to work of more than half an hour. About a third of adults report no leisure-time activity in the CDC’s estimate. So coaching here is built around a fixed workweek and the drive on either side of it, and the first job is a plan that survives a hard week. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online.
Activity and sleep in Miami Gardens
Age-adjusted, an estimated 34.7% of adults in Miami Gardens report no leisure-time physical activity (a modeled estimate, 95% CI 30.9 to 38.8). An estimated 45.1% usually sleep less than 7 hours in a 24-hour period (same kind of estimate, 95% CI 40.6 to 50.0).
About a third of adults report no leisure-time activity in this model-based estimate. With an hour of driving on a workday, the first goal for anyone starting from there is two sessions a week that hold up in a bad week, not five that do not.
Daily life in Miami Gardens, by the numbers
From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 8.9% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.4); the median age is 39.4 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.3); 87.6% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.7).
Training around a long commute in Miami Gardens
Commuters who live here average 32.1 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.1), per the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
When the drive takes an hour out of the day and the job is on-site, the plan is built around the drive rather than around a free evening that rarely comes.
Training through the Miami Gardens heat
At the N MIAMI BEACH #2 station (USC00086315, 2.8 km from the Census internal point), the 1991–2020 normal July high is 89.6 F, with 78.2 days a year at or above 90 F on average, an average January low of 59 F, and 68.33 inches of rain a year. Partial records behind some of these: July high 15 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years), January low 17 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years), 90 F days 14 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years), precipitation 15 years (flag R, representative: at least 10 but fewer than 24 years).
The station is close to the city, but its record is partial: each of these four normals rests on fourteen to seventeen years rather than the full thirty-year period, and the flags above give the years. Read the figures as a rough guide. They still point one way: lifting indoors, outdoor work at the edges of the day when it is hot, and the mild months for everything else.
How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call — Miami Gardens is on Eastern time, the same as me, so the call goes on whichever evening your week leaves free. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
I work on-site and the drive is over half an hour. When do I train?
On the way home, before you get there. The average trip to work here is more than half an hour, and fewer than one worker in ten works from home, so the plan does not count on a home day to absorb a session. The evening that starts after you have parked and sat down is the one that gets cancelled. So the plan puts a gym on the route between work and home, and the session happens on the drive back, two or three days a week, with the bag already in the car. On the days that run late, the session shrinks to the main lifts and still counts. Coaching for a week that doesn’t hold still covers what happens when the week changes.
The weather station’s record is partial. What can I take from it?
The shape of the year, not the decimal. The station is near the city, but each of its normals rests on a partial record, which is why the flags and years are printed above. Even on that record it counts more than seventy days a year at or above ninety degrees, a July high just under ninety and January lows near sixty. That is enough to plan by: lifting indoors all year, walks and runs before the heat builds or after dark on hot days, and the mild winter as the time outdoor work can go at any hour. If a fuller record ever moves the numbers a little, the plan does not change.
