Online fitness coaching for people in Pembroke Pines
Pembroke Pines is one of the Broward cities inside the Miami metro, and its numbers describe a commuting city: the average trip to work is about half an hour each way, and most workers who live here go in rather than work from home. Its weather comes from the Fort Lauderdale station, the one the Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood pages read. So the plan here is written around the drive first and the weather second. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online.
Activity and sleep in Pembroke Pines
Age-adjusted, an estimated 24.6% of adults in Pembroke Pines report no leisure-time physical activity (a modeled estimate, 95% CI 21.3 to 27.8). An estimated 39.3% usually sleep less than 7 hours in a 24-hour period (same kind of estimate, 95% CI 34.6 to 44.2).
About one adult in four reports no leisure-time activity in this model-based estimate, which also means most people here already do something. For them the question is rarely how to start; it is how to keep a routine going when the day begins and ends in a car.
Daily life in Pembroke Pines, by the numbers
From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 15.5% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.4); the median age is 44.3 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.0); 91.3% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 1.5).
Training around a long commute in Pembroke Pines
Commuters who live here average 30.4 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.8), per the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
An hour of driving a day is the fixed cost of the week here. The plan takes it as given: the sessions are placed where the driving is not, and the drive is treated as the boundary of the training day rather than an obstacle to it.
Training through the Pembroke Pines heat
At the FT LAUDERDALE station (USC00083163, 16.9 km from the Census internal point), the 1991–2020 normal July high is 90.2 F, with 74.8 days a year at or above 90 F on average, an average January low of 57.7 F, and 68.77 inches of rain a year.
The Fort Lauderdale station is about seventeen kilometres from the city, and its readings are the same ones printed on the Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood pages. The practical reading is the same too: lifting indoors through the hot months, walks and runs before the heat builds or after sunset, and the cool months for the outdoor work.
How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call — Pembroke Pines is on Eastern time, the same as me, so the call goes on whichever evening the drive leaves free. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
The drive is about half an hour each way. Where does training fit?
In two fixed slots, decided before the week starts. With an average trip to work of about half an hour and most workers going in, the plan does not wait for an evening with energy left in it. One session goes on a weekend morning, when there is no drive, and one or two go into the weekday that reliably ends earliest, at a gym on the way home or in the living room once you are in. The weekend session is the anchor; the weekday ones are the sessions that bend when the week does. Anything shorter than planned still counts, and the weekly call moves the slots when the schedule changes. Coaching for a week that doesn’t hold still covers the weeks that go wrong.
The weather station is seventeen kilometres away. Do its numbers apply here?
Closely enough to plan by. The station is the Fort Lauderdale one, and its normals carry the standard completeness flag, on twenty-seven to twenty-nine years of record: a July high of about ninety, more than seventy days a year at or above ninety degrees, and January lows in the high fifties. The plan does not lean on any single degree of that; it uses the shape of the year: hard sessions indoors on hot days, the walking and running at the edges of the day, and the mild months for outdoor work at whatever hour suits. What I will not do is pretend the station is in the city; it is printed above with its distance.
