Online fitness coaching for people in the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater area
The Tampa Bay metro wraps around the bay from Tampa to St. Petersburg and Clearwater, with a fifth of its workers working from home and an older median age than the Orlando metro next door. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. The Tampa Bay area is on Eastern time, the same as me.
How the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater area trains, per the CDC’s metro survey
In 2023, an estimated 44.0% of adults in the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater area reported muscle-strengthening exercises two or more times a week (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 39.3 to 48.7). In 2024, an estimated 24.2% reported no physical activity or exercise in the past month (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 20.3 to 28.1). Metro samples are smaller than the state survey’s, so read the range in brackets more than the single number.

How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
I work from home. How does the plan use that?
It uses the hours a commute would have taken. A work-from-home week has slack in it that an office week does not: the half hour before the first call, the lunch break, the end of the day without a drive. The plan puts a session into one of those slots and keeps it there, so training stops depending on how the evening goes. A home setup with a bench and a few dumbbells is enough for most of the program; if you have a gym nearby, the heavier lower-body work goes there. The survey figure above says plenty of adults here already lift; the plan’s job is making it progress.
Does the program change if I am past forty?
The structure stays the same and the progression gets more careful. The metro’s median age is above forty, and starting or restarting strength training at that point is normal, not late. What changes is how fast the load goes up: the program adds a rep or a set before it adds weight, keeps most sets a few reps short of failure, and treats recovery days as part of the plan. Joints that complain get a different exercise for the same muscle, not a week off. If something hurts in a sharp way rather than a tired way, that is a conversation with a doctor first; I am a fitness coach, not a doctor.
