How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call — for Elgin that is Central time, an hour behind me, which puts the call comfortably in your evening. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
I joined a gym before and quit by February. What is different this time?
The plan expects February. The CDC’s estimate above says about a quarter of adults in Elgin report no leisure-time activity, and the station figures put January lows in the mid-teens, so the cold, dark weeks are exactly when a new routine dies. Coaching plans for them in advance: a home version of every session that needs only dumbbells or bands, a smaller week for the coldest stretch instead of a skipped one, and a weekly call that notices the first missed session rather than the fifth. Quitting usually starts with one missed week that nobody noticed. The plan is built to survive the worst month, not the best one.
Can I build a full program at home?
Yes, with a small setup and a plan that knows what you have. Adjustable dumbbells, a bench and a band cover squats, hinges, presses, rows and carries, which is most of what a program needs. With about one in eight workers in Elgin working from home, most people here will be training before or after work, so home training is mainly about skipping the drive to the gym on a winter evening. The plan is written for the equipment you tell me you have, and when the weights you own get too light, the program changes the exercise or the reps before it asks you to buy more.
