Online fitness coaching for people in the Cincinnati area

The Cincinnati metro reaches across three states, from the city and its Ohio suburbs over the river into Northern Kentucky and west into southeastern Indiana, with a short average commute and cold winters. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Cincinnati is on Eastern time, the same as me, so the call can go anywhere in your evening.

How the Cincinnati area trains, per the CDC’s metro survey

In 2023, an estimated 43.8% of adults in the Cincinnati area reported muscle-strengthening exercises two or more times a week (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 40.4 to 47.3). In 2024, an estimated 20.6% reported no physical activity or exercise in the past month (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 17.9 to 23.4). Metro samples are smaller than the state survey’s, so read the range in brackets more than the single number.

Daily life in the Cincinnati area, by the numbers

From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 14.5% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.3); commuters average 24.7 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.2); the median age is 38.2 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); 91.8% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.3). Metro-area figures: your own city may differ.

How coaching works from a distance

Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.

I live in Kentucky and work in Ohio. Does that change anything?

Only where the sessions go. The coaching is the same in all three states: the app, the weigh-ins and the weekly call work the same way anywhere, and the whole metro shares one time zone with me. A commute across the river is part of the day that does not move, and with an average commute under twenty-five minutes there is usually room before or after work. The harder sessions go on any work-from-home days, one can move to the morning before the drive, and the weekend carries one more. When your office days change, the weekly call places next week’s sessions.

How does the plan change between summer and winter here?

Less than you might think, because the lifting stays indoors either way. The station figures above give Cincinnati warm summers and January lows in the low-to-mid twenties. Summer moves outdoor walking and running to the morning or evening; winter moves it indoors or to the middle of the day on weekends. The strength sessions, which carry most of the program, stay where they are all year. What the plan watches is the change of season itself, when routines slip: the first weekly call of a new season is where we reset the outdoor work before the habit breaks. The lifting never has to restart.
