Online fitness coaching for people in the Salt Lake City–Murray area

The Salt Lake City metro fills the valley from the city south through Murray, with a median age under thirty-five, a short commute, more than sixty days a year at or above 90 F and cold winters. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Salt Lake City is on Mountain time, two hours behind me, so your evening call is my later evening, which works.

How the Salt Lake City–Murray area trains, per the CDC’s metro survey

In 2023, an estimated 46.3% of adults in the Salt Lake City–Murray area reported muscle-strengthening exercises two or more times a week (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 44.2 to 48.5). In 2024, an estimated 18.3% reported no physical activity or exercise in the past month (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 16.9 to 19.8). Metro samples are smaller than the state survey’s, so read the range in brackets more than the single number.

How coaching works from a distance

Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.

I already lift and get outside a lot. What would coaching add?

A plan that ties the two together. The survey figures above say more than four in ten adults in the metro do muscle-strengthening work twice a week and fewer than one in five reported no exercise, so the question here is rarely whether you train. It is whether the lifting and the outdoor days are working with each other: a heavy leg day before a long hike, or a program that stops every time the season changes, is how a year of effort goes nowhere. Coaching plans the strength work around the outdoor calendar you already have, so the lifts keep progressing through every season.

How does the plan change between summer and winter?

Summer moves the outdoor work to the edges of the day, and winter moves it indoors or to midday. The station figures above show more than sixty days a year at or above 90 F and January lows in the mid-twenties. So in the hot months, runs and hikes go to early morning or evening and water matters; in the coldest months, the daily movement goes indoors or to the middle of the day. The strength sessions stay indoors and on the same days all year, which is what keeps progress going while the outdoor half changes with the season.
