Online fitness coaching for people in Minnesota
Minnesota has one of the shorter commutes on these pages, a good work-from-home share, and one of the lower shares of adults who report no activity. It also has a long winter, which is the real design constraint. Coaching for Minnesota is a plan that is the same in February as it was in July, for people who already move. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Minnesota is on Central time, an hour behind me.
How Minnesota trains, per the CDC's state survey
In 2023, 41.1% of adults in Minnesota reported muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week (BRFSS, 95% CI 39.9 to 42.2). In 2025, 18.2% reported no leisure-time physical activity at all (BRFSS, 95% CI 17.4 to 19.0).
Daily life in Minnesota, by the numbers
From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 17.6% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); commuters average 22.7 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); the median age is 38.8 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); 91.6% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1). State figures: your own city may differ.
How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
How does the plan survive a Minnesota winter?
By never depending on the weather. The lifting happens indoors all year, so the two or three sessions a week do not change when the lakes freeze; only the walking does, and it moves to a treadmill, a skyway or a hallway with a floor you can hit without a parka. The state survey puts Minnesota among the lower shares of adults reporting no activity, and about four in ten lift twice a week; the ones who stop usually stop in December, when a plan with outdoor pieces in it quietly dies. The winter version is written before winter.
My commute is short and I sometimes work from home. Where do sessions go?
Into the slack the week already has. Minnesota has one of the shorter commutes on these pages and a good work-from-home share, so a lot of weeks here have a midday hour or an early finish; the plan gives you two or three forty-minute sessions to put there, and the weekly call is where next week gets placed. Time was never the constraint here; a decision made in advance about when and what is. Consistency without motivation is the idea.
The Cities, the Range, the farm towns: does it change anything?
Only where you lift. Most Minnesota households have a broadband subscription, which is all the weekly call needs, and the plan sits in an app on your phone. The median age here is on the younger side of these pages, and the plan is built for someone who wants to be training in ten years. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online; what makes it feel close is the call, not the mileage.
