Online fitness coaching for people in the Providence–Warwick area
The Providence metro covers all of Rhode Island and Bristol County in southeastern Massachusetts, with a median age over forty, cold winters and nearly one in four adults reporting no exercise. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Providence is on Eastern time, the same as me, so the call can go anywhere in your evening.
How the Providence–Warwick area trains, per the CDC’s metro survey
In 2023, an estimated 40.1% of adults in the Providence–Warwick area reported muscle-strengthening exercises two or more times a week (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 37.9 to 42.3). In 2024, an estimated 23.3% reported no physical activity or exercise in the past month (CDC SMART BRFSS, 95% CI 21.6 to 25.0). Metro samples are smaller than the state survey’s, so read the range in brackets more than the single number.

How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
Nearly one in four adults here report no exercise. Is coaching for beginners?
Yes, and beginners are where coaching changes the most. The survey figures above say nearly a quarter of adults in the metro reported no physical activity in the past month, while about four in ten lift twice a week. A beginner does not need a harder program; they need one they understand, with each movement explained before it is loaded, a weekly call to answer what felt wrong, and a first month that ends with them wanting a second. That means two sessions a week to start, simple movements, and a plan that expects a missed day and has an answer ready for it.
I live on the Massachusetts side. Does that change anything?
No, the coaching is the same on both sides of the line. The metro takes in all of Rhode Island and Bristol County in Massachusetts, and the app, the weigh-ins and the weekly call work the same way in both, on the same Eastern clock as me. What matters more is the shape of your week. With about one in eight workers working from home and an average commute under half an hour, most weeks here run on an office schedule, so the plan fixes a session before or after work on the same days each week, puts a longer one on the weekend, and keeps a short version for the days that run late.
