Online fitness coaching for people in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has one of the lower shares of adults reporting no activity on these pages, one of the higher work-from-home shares, and a commute on the long side. It is an active, connected, busy state with a long winter. Coaching here is less about getting people moving and more about giving the movement a program, and giving the program a winter version. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Massachusetts is on Eastern time, the same as me.

How Massachusetts trains, per the CDC's state survey

In 2023, 41.3% of adults in Massachusetts reported muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week (BRFSS, 95% CI 39.8 to 42.8). In 2025, 19.9% reported no leisure-time physical activity at all (BRFSS, 95% CI 18.9 to 21.0).

Daily life in Massachusetts, by the numbers

From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 18.6% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.2); commuters average 29.1 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); the median age is 40.0 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); 92.8% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1). State figures: your own city may differ.

How coaching works from a distance

Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.

I run and cycle already. Do I need strength coaching?

You need a strength program. The state survey puts Massachusetts among the lower shares of adults reporting no activity and, like every state on these pages, well under half lifting two or more days a week. That is the runner-and-cyclist profile: plenty of movement, no progression under a bar. Two or three short lifting sessions a week make the rest last longer, and a coach adds the progression and the logbook. How to decide whether coaching is worth paying for.

My week is half commute, half home office. Where do sessions go?

Where this week has room, which is why the plan is written in sessions and not days. Massachusetts has one of the higher work-from-home shares on these pages and a commute on the long side, so office days often have no evening and home days have a free noon. Two or three sessions a week, forty minutes, built around the big movements: a lunch hour at home, a gym near the station on a commute day, the weekend when neither worked. The weekly call places the next week once you know its shape.

What happens to the plan from December to March?

Nothing to the lifting, which happens indoors all year; the outdoor work moves inside or shrinks to a floor you can hit in a hallway, and comes back when the paths clear. The plan is written with a winter version before winter, so a snowed-in week is a shorter week, not a skipped one. Most Massachusetts households have a broadband subscription, which is all the weekly call needs, and the median age here sits in the middle of these pages.
