Online fitness coaching for people in Louisiana

Louisiana has one of the smallest work-from-home shares on these pages, one of the lower broadband shares, and one of the higher shares of adults who report no activity at all. It also has a summer as humid as mine. Coaching for Louisiana is about a plan for an office-and-drive week, run on a phone, that starts small and survives August. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Louisiana is on Central time, an hour behind me.

How Louisiana trains, per the CDC's state survey

In 2023, 40.8% of adults in Louisiana reported muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week (BRFSS, 95% CI 39.1 to 42.6). In 2025, 26.4% reported no leisure-time physical activity at all (BRFSS, 95% CI 25.0 to 28.0).

Daily life in Louisiana, by the numbers

From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 8.1% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.2); commuters average 25.7 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.2); the median age is 38.0 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); 86.6% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.2). State figures: your own city may differ.

How coaching works from a distance

Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.

Nobody here works from home. Is online coaching made for people like us?

It is made for anyone who can get to a gym two or three times a week, and an office week can. Louisiana has one of the smallest work-from-home shares on these pages, so the plan never assumes a midday hour: it assumes mornings before work, a gym between work and home, and one longer session at the weekend. The commute sits in the middle here, which leaves room on one side of the day or the other. What is online is the coaching, not the training.

A quarter of adults here do nothing. Where would I start?

Smaller than you think, and indoors in summer. The state survey puts Louisiana among the higher shares of adults reporting no leisure-time activity, while the share who lift twice a week is close to the other states here. The first month is two short sessions of six movements in the air conditioning, weights that feel too easy, and a walk at first light or after dark with a floor you can hit on a bad day. The outdoor work comes back in the long mild stretch from October on. Coaching for beginners is the first month with someone reading your numbers.

Our internet is poor. Does it matter?

Hardly. Louisiana has one of the lower household broadband shares on these pages, and the plan is built for a phone: the workouts sit in an app, the weigh-ins are a number you type, and the weekly call runs fine on a phone connection; if the video is poor, we talk. The median age here is on the younger side of these pages, and the plan is built for someone who wants to be training in ten years.
