Online fitness coaching for people in Tennessee
Tennessee works in the office more than most states on these pages and starts early, which describes the week the plan has to fit: a drive, a shift, and an evening that arrives late. The state survey says a quarter of adults report no activity at all and fewer than half lift twice a week. Coaching for Tennessee is about a plan that happens before the day fills up. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Tennessee splits across two time zones: the east is on Eastern time like me, the middle and west are on Central, an hour behind. The call is scheduled around yours.
How Tennessee trains, per the CDC's state survey
In 2023, 40.7% of adults in Tennessee reported muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week (BRFSS, 95% CI 38.9 to 42.5). In 2025, 25.3% reported no leisure-time physical activity at all (BRFSS, 95% CI 23.8 to 26.8).
Daily life in Tennessee, by the numbers
From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 12.9% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.2); commuters average 25.7 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); the median age is 38.9 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); 89.2% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.2). State figures: your own city may differ.
How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
I’m in the office all week. When does training happen?
Before the drive, or on the way home from it. Tennessee has one of the smaller work-from-home shares on these pages, so the plan does not assume a midday hour; it assumes a morning slot two or three days a week, or a gym between work and home, and one longer session on the weekend. The commute is not the longest here, which helps: an early session and the drive can both fit before most offices open. The weekly call goes in the evening, in your time zone, whichever side of the line you live on.
A quarter of Tennesseans report doing nothing. Where would I even start?
Smaller than you think. The state survey puts Tennessee among the higher shares of adults reporting no leisure-time activity, and in my experience the reason is rarely laziness; it is plans that asked for five evenings in a week that had none. We start at two short sessions you can repeat and a step floor you can hit on a bad day, and we add only when your week has room. The share who lift twice a week is not far from the other states here, so the gym culture exists; the plan just has to survive the drive. Coaching for beginners is the first month.
Does the time-zone line matter for anything but the call?
No. The workouts sit in an app on your phone, the weigh-ins are a number you type, and the call is scheduled around your clock, east or west of the line. Most Tennessee households have a broadband subscription, and a phone connection is enough when they do not. The median age here sits in the middle of these pages, so the plan progresses by reps and sets before weight and leaves recovery days alone.
