Online fitness coaching for people in Virginia
Virginia has one of the higher work-from-home shares of any state on these pages and one of the lower shares of adults who report no activity at all. It is a state where a lot of people already move and a lot of people have a flexible hour in the day. Coaching for Virginia is about giving that hour a program with progression in it. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Virginia is on Eastern time, the same as me.
How Virginia trains, per the CDC's state survey
In 2023, 42.3% of adults in Virginia reported muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week (BRFSS, 95% CI 40.6 to 44.1). In 2025, 20.0% reported no leisure-time physical activity at all (BRFSS, 95% CI 18.3 to 21.9).
Daily life in Virginia, by the numbers
From the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, published value and margin of error together: about 18.3% of workers who live here work from home (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.2); commuters average 27.3 minutes to work (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); the median age is 39.0 years (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1); 91.0% of households have a broadband subscription (90% margin of error plus or minus 0.1). State figures: your own city may differ.
How coaching works from a distance
Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online. Your workouts live in the Trainerize app, you weigh in twice a week, you send progress photos every two weeks, and we talk on a weekly call scheduled around your time zone. Between calls, you can message me with questions.
I work from home most days. Does that change the plan?
It opens it up. Virginia has one of the higher work-from-home shares on these pages, so a lot of weeks here have a midday hour that an office week does not, and a forty-minute session at noon is often the most reliable slot there is. The commute figure says the rest of the week still drives, so the plan is written in sessions you place, not time slots you keep: two or three a week, built around the big movements, dropped where your calendar actually has room. The weekly call is where we move them when the week changes shape.
Virginia already seems active. Why a coach?
For the same reason an active person hires one anywhere: moving and progressing are different things. The state survey puts Virginia among the lower shares of adults reporting no leisure-time activity, and fewer than half report lifting two or more days a week. That is a lot of people who run, hike the Blue Ridge and walk the dog, and have never had a strength program that goes anywhere. The plan adds that program and someone who reads the logbook every week, and it stays out of the way of the rest.
Northern Virginia, Richmond, the Shenandoah: do you coach them differently?
Same method, your week. The state figures blend a dense commuter corridor with a lot of small towns, and the plan only needs to know your days, your drive and where you can lift. Most Virginia households have a broadband subscription, which is all the weekly call needs, and the median age here sits in the middle of these pages, which shows up in the plan as progression that respects recovery. Diogo is based in South Florida and coaches online; nothing here implies otherwise.
